All Lines

Tranz Metro offer rail services throughout the Wellington area. From Wellington to Johnsonville, Paraparaumu, Upper Hutt, and on to the Wairarapa. Read more.


Johnsonville Line Map

Rich in history, the route meanders through bush clad valleys and steep sided hills north of Wellington. Early settlers had to carve and blast through solid rock to open the track in 1885, building seven tunnels and four bridges along the way. Later, it became one of the first electrified lines in the country (13 July 1938) and is now an integral part of the communities it services. Read more.


Kapiti Line Map

In February 2011 Metro services were extended from Paraparaumu to Waikanae. This was the first extension to the electrified network since 1982 and brought regular commuter to services to Waikanae for the first time. Read more.


Melling Line Map

The Melling Line separates from the Upper Hutt Line north of Petone to eventually meet up with the western side of the Hutt River, just before you arrive at Melling. Read more.

Hutt Valley

Hutt Valley Line Map

Trains run on the Hutt Valley line seven days a week. Services run half hourly, and depart more frequently during the weekday morning and evening peaks. Read more.


Wairarapa Line Map

The rail journey north out of Wellington - "over the hill" - has risen in popularity among Wellingtonians on the back of a boom in Wairarapa attractions such as vineyards, wine and food festivals, horse races and short country breaks. Read more.
